The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has long recognized the need for quality health care for older adults and the role that registered dietitian nutritionists play in disease prevention and management in this population. Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) can help not only improve health outcomes and lower health care costs, but also promote quality of life.1,2 Access to MNT in Medicare is particularly important for individuals from racial and ethnic minority groups who have historically faced disparities in chronic disease rates due to socioeconomic inequalities and reduced access to health care, healthy foods, and safe places to be active.
