My predecessors told me this would happen, and it has. The year I have been privileged to serve as ADA’s 81st president has gone faster than I imagined it could. At the same time, we have laid the groundwork for future growth and accomplished so much that I can hardly believe we did it all in just 1 year. Beginning with my first President’s Page, I have spotlighted dedicated people, innovative programs, and creative activities that exemplify ADA’s values. ADA’s Phase 2 Future Practice and Education Task Force is now examining the recommendations of its predecessor the Dietetics Education Task Force, determining how to proceed, and soliciting more member input related to the future educational needs of new practitioners. The Phase 2 Task Force is scheduled to report to the House of Delegates later this year. My thanks to all members of the task force for their willingness to continue addressing the difficult but essential questions of educational preparation for the profession of dietetics.Will We Be Leading the Future of Dietetics?

Why do food and nutrition professionals join ADA and renew their membership? The primary reason is the opportunity to belong to the dietetics profession’s leading organization, and the second-most popular reason is “professional/career development.” Third is to receive the Journal of the American Dietetic Association (1).
