Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Quality Measures for Malnutrition

Published:August 22, 2019DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jand.2019.07.001
Malnutrition has long been an underdiagnosed and undertreated condition among older adults. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy) as measure steward worked with Avalere Health to develop four electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) for malnutrition. In a collaborative partnership with other stakeholders who provided guidance and expertise, measures concepts were established. The measures discussion allowed for greater understanding of how nutrition care processes and executed plans currently occur. Utilizing the interdisciplinary care team, recognizing the adaptation of malnutrition-structured data, and identifying missing components within the electronic health records systems led to classifying the best methods to improve outcomes through measurement, such as performance metrics and protocols.
