As editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association from 1983-2003, and later as editor emeritus of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics until her death on October 29, 2014, Elaine Monsen, PhD, RD, left a legacy of developing
and enhancing research literature and elevating the status and prestige of the nutrition
and dietetics profession. Maintaining a commitment first made by Mary Pascoe Huddleson,
the second editor of the Journal (1927-1946), to increase access to the latest in research, Monsen shortened the time
between paper submission and publication and expanded the practice area of the Journal.
